The digital and electronic devices cluster consists of both component manufacturers (e.g., semiconductors, integrated circuits) and end-user products (e.g., computer-based instruments, radar and communications equipment). The digital and electronic devices cluster is the largest of the five Central Upstate New York technology clusters, representing 12,159 workers in the region. This employment represents a 22.5 percent increase (2,236 workers) over the 1998-2003 period - the second largest growth rate and the largest actual increase among the five potential technology clusters. Digital and electronic device employment is more than 70 percent more concentrated in the Central Upstate New York region than it is nationally.
